Silver nitrate crystals are dissolved in distilled water to prepare its solution and not in tap water . This is due to the reason that tap water contains chloride ions which gives white precipitate with AgNO3 solution.
Dilute hydrochloric acid deoomposes metallic carbonates, hydrogen carbonates to give the corresponding metal chloride and carbon dioxide. The gas CO2 liberated
with brisk effervescence while sulphuric acid does not give CO2.
