Preliminary procedures of cleaning or washing of food are:
- Wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds before and after handling food items.

- Wash fruits and vegetables before peeling them so that dirt and bacteria do not get transferred to the inside by the knife.
- While rinsing under clean running water, gently rub the food items. Soap is not required.
- After washing, dry the food items using a clean cloth or paper towel to help reduce any remaining bacteria.
- Always use clean knives, utensils, and cutting boards while washing and preparing food to avoid contamination and prevent germs from spreading to other food items.
