To test a shuttle’s speed, use a full underhand stroke, hitting it from behind the back boundary line at an upward angle and parallel to the sidelines. A correctly paced shuttle should land between 530 mm and 990 mm short of the opposite back boundary line. If the shuttle is too fast or too slow and you don’t have others with different speeds, you can adjust it by tipping the feathers. Bending the feathers outward will slow the shuttle down, while bending them inward will make it faster.
