उत्तर

Kucha wells (or kutcha wells) are traditional, temporary open wells dug by hand into the ground with no permanent brick, stone, or concrete lining along their inner walls. They are often shallow structures built in rural areas where the earth is hard enough to keep its form, drawing from the uppermost layer of the unconfined water table to provide a rapid and inexpensive water source for modest irrigation and household purposes. However, due to a lack of structural reinforcement, kucha wells are exceedingly unstable and prone to falling in or becoming clogged with mud during strong monsoon rains. Furthermore, they are unreliable during the dry summer months since they dry up quickly as the water table falls, necessitating regular re-digging and intense seasonal maintenance by farmers.
