2. Non-monetized transactions: Many goods and services are exchanged through barter or self-consumption, especially in rural areas. For instance, farmers may consume their own produce without entering the market, and communities often rely on reciprocal labor exchanges.
3. Poor data collection and Statistical systems: UDCs often lack the infrastructure and skilled personnel needed for reliable data collection. Government statistical agencies may be underfunded and poorly managed, leading to outdated and inaccurate economic data.
4. Widespread subsistence agriculture: A large portion of the population in UDCs is engaged in subsistence agriculture, where production is primarily for self-consumption rather than market sale. This type of production is often excluded from national income calculations, leading to underestimation of real economic activity.
