Amul’s success story:

A group of farmers came together in 1946 to form a cooperative society to secure better prices for their milk. The Kaira District Milk Cooperative Union later collaborated with other milk cooperatives, which led to the establishment of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF). GCMMF is responsible for producing and marketing milk and milk products under the AMUL brand. Today, it collects nearly 5 lakh litres of milk every day from around 2.55 million farmers. It sells its products through about five lakh retail outlets across India and abroad, achieving a turnover of more than ₹ 60 billion.
