उत्तर
Quality of a musical note: quality of a sound is that characteristic which distinguishes the two sounds of the same loudness and same pitch, but emitted by two different instruments. It depends on the waveform.

Two sounds of same amplitudes (i.e same loudness) and
same frequency but of different wave forms.

State the safe limit of sound level in terms of decibel for human hearing.
A person is standing at the seashore. An observer on the ship which is anchored in between a vertical cliff and the person on the shore fires a gun. The person on the shore hears two sounds, 2 seconds and 3 seconds after seeing the smoke of the fired gun. If the speed of sound in the air is 320 ms-1 then calculate:
1) the distance between the observer on the ship and the person on the shore.
2) the distance between the cliff and the observer on the ship.

The pitch of sound depends on frequency.
The time period of a wave is 2 s. Its frequency is ..........
The pitch of a flute is decreased by ................... length of air column.
Smaller the membrane, .................. is the pitch.
State three factors on which loudness of sound heard by a listener depends.
Two waves of the same pitch have amplitudes in the ratio 1:3. What will be the ratio of frequencies?
Give scientific reason for the following:
Windows sometimes rattle when the low notes of a pipe organ are sounded.
The loudness of a sound depends on its pitch.
