उत्तर
India is a secular state, as declared by its Constitution, meaning that the state has no official religion and treats all religions equally. This is ensured by Articles 25 to 28, which guarantee every citizen the freedom of religion to profess, practice, and propagate any religion or not follow any at all.
The term ‘secular’ was officially added to the Preamble by the 42nd Amendment in 1976, affirming the state’s commitment to religious tolerance, equality, and non-discrimination. The Indian state does not favour or promote any religion and maintains complete neutrality in religious matters. This reflects India’s strong commitment to respecting all faiths while upholding individual rights and national unity.
