Electronic gadgets have become an integral part of life but at the same time they are increasingly distracting youth. As Anvita/Anvit, a concerned parent of Sahishnupur, write a letter to the editor of a local daily expressing your concern on the issue, its impact on studies, health, and social life and also provide suggestive ways to detox youth from this addiction.

Subject: Growing concern over gadget addiction among youth
Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the increasing dependency of our youth on electronic gadgets. While technology is a boon, its excessive use has turned into a major distraction for the younger generation in our city.
The impact is visible across all spheres of their lives. Academically, the constant urge to check notifications leads to a fragmented attention span and poor performance. Physically, the sedentary lifestyle associated with long screen hours is causing rising cases of obesity, eye strain, and sleep deprivation. Furthermore, social life is now confined to digital interactions, leading to a lack of genuine empathy and real-world communication skills.
To tackle this growing addiction, I suggest the following measures:
- Digital Fasting: Families should observe “gadget-free hours,” especially during meals and before bedtime.
- Outdoor Engagement: Schools and parents should encourage physical sports and outdoor hobbies to provide a natural dopamine hit.
- Educational Workshops: Local authorities should conduct awareness programs on “digital hygiene” to teach students how to use technology mindfully.
- Device Tracking: Youth should be encouraged to use screen-time monitoring apps to become aware of their own usage patterns.
It is high time we guide our youth toward a balanced lifestyle where technology serves as a tool, not a master. I hope you will publish this letter to initiate a much-needed conversation in our community.
Yours sincerely,
Anvit
