उत्तर

                 Linear Pattern

Linear Pattern: This type of settlement consists of two rows of houses placed parallel to each other, facing one another across a wide main street in the village. These linear settlements are often located near a stream, as seen in regions like Manipur, the Balaghat and Mandla districts of Madhya Pradesh, and the Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh. In the Chotanagpur region of Jharkhand, such settlements are commonly found among tribal communities. Nagaland also frequently exhibits linear settlement patterns. In this case, the village is usually located on the top of a hill and may be fortified. Similarly, fishing villages along the coast often resemble linear clusters in their layout.

              Circular Pattern

Circular Pattern: When houses are built along the edge of a pond or lake, the settlement forms a circular shape, which is referred to as a circular pattern. This type of settlement can be seen in areas like the Upper Ganga-Yamuna Doab, the Trans-Yamuna region, and in some parts of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
