We don’t think so. It was Hindi they spoke. Many words, such as ‘numberdar,’ ‘tehsildar sahib,’ ‘izzat,’ and ‘pitaji,’ show that to be true. That’s clear from the names of the characters, like ‘Ramlal’ and ‘Bholi.’
