Aspect Beliefs Attitudes
Meaning Beliefs are ideas, assumptions, or convictions that an individual holds to be true. Attitudes are learned predispositions to respond positively or negatively toward people, objects, ideas, or situations.
Nature Primarily cognitive (thought-based). Composed of cognitive (beliefs), affective (feelings), and behavioural (action tendencies) components.
Content Focuses on what is true or what exists according to the person. Focuses on how one feels about and evaluates something or someone.
Formation Formed through learning, observation, cultural teachings, and direct experience. Formed through beliefs, personal experiences, emotions, socialization, and learning processes.
Function Helps understand and interpret the world; provides knowledge and structure to thinking. Guides behaviour and responses in social situations; influences choices and interactions.
Stability Often stable but can change with new evidence or learning. Relatively stable but can change through persuasion, new experiences, or social influence.
Expression Usually expressed as statements about facts or ideas. Expressed through emotions, evaluations, and readiness to act.
