  1. Intelligence: Intelligence is a key factor in a child’s growth and development. Generally, the higher the intelligence, the better the overall development, assuming other factors remain the same. Milestones like walking, talking, and various sensory-motor and cognitive skills are influenced by a child's IQ. When intelligence is low, development tends to be slower. A child with below-average intelligence typically begins walking and speaking later than a child with average intelligence, and their physical and mental progress is usually delayed.
  2. Nutrition: Proper growth and development are heavily influenced by nutritious food. A balanced diet supports faster development of both the mind and body. Deficiencies in protein, vitamins, or calcium can cause various health issues in children. Nutrition is especially crucial in the early years, and it’s the quality of food, not just the quantity, that matters most. Poor diet can lead to problems like tooth decay, skin conditions, and rickets in children.
  3. Injuries and Diseases: Injuries to the head during birth, exposure to harmful substances from medications, or illnesses like high fever and typhoid can hinder a child’s growth.
  4. Race: Racial differences in development indicate that children from Mediterranean regions tend to develop physically earlier than those from Northern European countries. Indian children generally experience slower growth compared to white and East Asian children.
  5. Culture: Dennis conducted a study on a group of Hopi Indian infants to assess the impact of culture on child development. He discovered that despite cultural variations, both American and Hopi babies exhibited similar social and motor behaviors.
  6. Position in the Family: In a family, second, third, and later-born children usually develop faster than the first-born. This is because younger siblings often learn by observing and imitating their older brothers and sisters, which helps them start talking earlier.
  7. Emotion: A child’s normal emotional development can be disrupted by factors such as overprotection, lack of love and affection, inadequate parental care, excessive pampering, emotional instability, and intolerance from parents.
  8. Fresh air and Sunlight: A child’s size and health are influenced by their exposure to fresh air and sunlight. As a result, children from well-maintained environments tend to grow differently compared to those from less favorable surroundings.
