Even in the solid state, sulphur dioxide (SO2) forms distinct molecules and is a gas at ambient temperature. The molecule has a 119° bond angle and a bent shape. The S atom in SO2 appears to be in a state of sp2 hybridisation based on the bond angle of 119°, which is extremely close to 120°.
