Aspect Klinefelter’s Syndrome Turner’s Syndrome
Chromosomal Pattern The individual has an extra X chromosome resulting in XXY (47 chromosomes). The individual has a monosomy X pattern resulting in XO (45 chromosomes).
Genetic Sex Genetically male due to the presence of the Y chromosome. Genetically female but sexless due to absence of the second sex chromosome.
Gonadal Sex Testes are present but atrophied and underdeveloped. No ovaries or testes are present; gonads are absent or underdeveloped.
Phenotype The outward appearance is male with small-sized penis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, but no sperm production. Breast development may occur. The external genitalia are female (vulva, vagina, uterus), but breasts do not develop due to lack of estrogen.
Physical Characteristics Individuals often have sparse body hair, longer arms and legs, some mental impairment, and are sterile males. Individuals have a webbed neck, broad chest, short stature, underdeveloped breasts, and below average intelligence; they are sterile females.
