1.	A player is assessed a personal foul every time he commits a defensive foul. Each player can commit up to 6 personal fouls per game, after which he will be disqualified from the game.	Team fouls are accumulations of personal fouls (except offensive fouls) committed by players on a team.
2.	A foul is an infringement or breaking of a rule that involves a personal contact with an opponent or unsportsman, like behaviour. A personal foul occurs if a player blocks, holds, pushes, charges, trips, checks the progress of an opponent, or uses rough tactics.	Each personal foul committed by a player is also counted against his team; when a team goes over the limit, its opponent is awarded a free throw.
3.	Blocking: A personal contact which checks the progress of an opponent.	In America's NBA, the limit is five fouls, personal or technical, in any one period, after which the opposing team gets two free throws.
4.	Charging: Pushing or contacting an opponent's torso.	When a team has committed seven players' fouls, personal or technical, in one half, then for all further player fouls, the one-and-one rule comes into operation.
5.	Guarding from behind: That results in personal contact.	According to this one-and-one rule, for all subsequent player fouls, the player against whom the foul has been committed is given one free throw. If this free throw is successful, he gets one more free throw. But if he fails to score on the first chance, he is not given the second free throw, and the game is continued as per the rules.
6.	Holding: It is holding or catching an opponent to check his movement.	A holding foul by a player is counted as a team foul and adds to the team foul total.
7.	Illegal use of hands: In trying to play the ball, contacts an opponent with hands.	An illegal use of hands foul by a player is counted as a team foul and increases the team foul count.
