उत्तर

Sr. No. Properties Crystalline solids Amorphous solids
1. Arrangement of structural units The arrangement of structural units is very regular and extends in three dimensions throughout the crystal, showing long-range order. In contrast, in amorphous solids, the arrangement is not regular throughout the solid, and only short-range order is observed.
2. Geometrical configuration Crystalline solids have a definite geometrical configuration. Amorphous solids have an indefinite geometrical configuration.
3. Melting points The solids have a very sharp and distinct melting point. These solids do not have a sharp melting point; instead, they melt over a range of temperatures.
4. Heats of fusion The fusion heat of crystalline solids is definite and characteristic. The fusion heat of amorphous solids is neither definite nor characteristic.
5. Cleavage with a knife When cut with a knife, crystalline solids break with a regular, clean cut. The amorphous solids break with an irregular cut.
6. Compressibility It is generally incompressible. It is generally compressible to some extent.
7. Nature They are true solids with a well-defined structure. They are considered supercooled liquids or pseudo-solids, lacking the long-range order found in true solids.
8. Anisotropy They are anisotropic in nature, meaning their physical properties vary depending on the direction in which they are measured. They are isotropic in nature, meaning their properties are uniform in all directions.
