Both totalitarian and authoritarian forms of regime are quite similar. The power in both the forms is concentrated in a central figure or group. Both are characterized by emphasizing citizens’ submission to the state. The difference is of degree of submission and not of kind. Both states have dictatorial tendencies and are known for taking quick and timely decisions. Both are good for emergencies.

There are however several differences between the two systems.
