Recently, XYZ School in Mumbai organised its annual inter-school drama competition titled “It’s Showtime!” The event, which spanned three days, saw a tremendous turnout, with participation from over 50 schools across the city, including St. Joseph’s Academy, St. Thomas, and Narmada Public School.
The goal was to highlight the value of participating in performing arts activities in addition to a regular curriculum. The festival’s theme, “Unity in Diversity,” helped bring our nation's many cultures, traditions, and laws to the kids’ attention. Judges were renowned theater performers Kamala Das and Saurabh Shukla. They gladly performed scenes from their next play, “The Window,” for the kids and gave lectures on stage expressions. The principal and honored guests lit the lamp in a customary manner to kick off the function. The Headmistress then gave a welcome address, introducing the judges and asking them to contribute their wisdom to the event. Students representing all participating schools, ranging in grade from 6 to 10, then gave their meticulously rehearsed presentations.
The audience cheered throughout the performance, enjoying the event. Finally, the judges announced the winners. Each winning team was given a certificate and a cash prize worth rupees two thousand.
The event was a resounding success, and we expect to see a grander show next year. After all, it’s always showtime here, folks!
