उत्तर
The primary sector holds a vital place in the Indian economy for the following reasons:
- The primary sector forms the foundation of all other sectors. Activities such as agriculture, fishing, dairy, and forestry depend directly on natural resources to produce goods, and most natural products originate from agriculture and related activities.
- A large section of India’s population is employed in the primary sector, especially in agriculture. Even with the growth of the secondary and tertiary sectors, agriculture remains the biggest source of employment, supporting the livelihoods of more than half of the population.
- The primary sector makes a significant contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Although agriculture’s share in GDP has reduced over time, it continues to supply essential raw materials to the secondary sector and supports the functioning of the tertiary sector.
