उत्तर

When acetic acid is added to ethyl alcohol in the presence of sulphuric acid, an ester (ethyl acetate) is formed. Esters can be detected by their fruity smell.

\[\ce{\underset{Acetic acid}{CH3COOH} + \underset{Ethanol}{C2H5OH} ->[H2SO4] \underset{Ethyl acetate}{CH3COOC2H5} + H2O}\]
