After six-year,

(x + 6) × 2 = y + 6  .......(i)

Before '4' years,

(x – 4) x 4 = y – 4  ......(ii)

From (i) and (ii)

2x + 12 – 6 = 4x – 12

2x = 18

⇒ x = 9 years
