उत्तर

The metal is extracted from lead ores by the following steps:

  1. Roasting: The lead ore (mainly PbS) is heated in the presence of oxygen to convert it into lead oxide (PbO) and sulphur dioxide (SO2).
  2. Reduction: The lead oxide is then mixed with coke and heated in a blast furnace. Carbon reduces PbO to metallic lead.
  3. Flux addition: Flux (like limestone) is added to remove impurities, forming slag.
  4. Collection: Molten lead is collected at the bottom, and impurities rise with slag.
