  2. In a nuclear power plant, this chain reaction must be carefully controlled.
  3. If the reaction is not controlled, a large number of neutrons will be produced rapidly.
  4. These neutrons can cause the fission of more uranium-235 nuclei, leading to an uncontrolled increase in the reaction rate.
  5. Such uncontrolled chain reactions can release an enormous amount of energy in a very short time and may result in serious accidents.
