उत्तर
Air pollution consists of various gases and particles released into the atmosphere by human activities like burning fossil fuels, industrial processes, agriculture, and deforestation. Some of these pollutants are greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). These gases trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere by absorbing and re-radiating infrared radiation from the Earth's surface. This natural process, called the greenhouse effect, is essential to keep the Earth warm enough to sustain life. However, excess greenhouse gases from pollution increase the thickness of this “blanket,” leading to enhanced greenhouse effect or global warming.
The increase in global temperature resulting from this enhanced greenhouse effect causes changes in climate patterns, including melting of glaciers and polar ice caps, rise in sea levels, flooding of low-lying areas, disruption of rainfall patterns, and more frequent extreme weather events. Other air pollutants like sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) contribute indirectly by forming acid rain and aerosols that can also influence atmospheric conditions and climate.
