उत्तर

Given:

Total height of beaker = 20 cm

Lower half: Oil, depth d1 = 10 cm, n1 = 1.40

Upper half: Water, depth d2 = 10 cm, n2 = 1.33

Formula:

Apparent depth = `d_1/n_1 + d_2/n_2`

= `10/1.40 + 10/1.33`

= 7.14 + 7.52

= 14.66 cm

The apparent depth of the beaker as observed normally is 14.66 cm.
