To fill a swimming pool two pipes are to be used. If the pipe of larger diameter is used for 4 hours and the pipe of smaller diameter for 9 hours, only half the pool can be filled. Find, how long it would take for each pipe to fill the pool separately, if the pipe of smaller diameter takes 10 hours more than the pipe of larger diameter to fill the pool.
A copper wire, 3 mm in diameter, is wound about a cylinder whose length is 12 cm, and diameter 10 cm, so as to cover the curved surface of the cylinder. Find the length and mass of the wire, assuming the density of copper to be 8.88 g per cm3.
A solid metallic sphere of diamter 16 cm is melted and recasted into smaller solid cones, each of radius 4 cm and height 8 cm. Find the number of cones so formed.
A tent is in the form of a cylinder of diameter 20 m and height 2.5 m, surmounted by a cone of equal base and height 7.5 m. Find the capacity of the tent and the cost of the canvas at Rs 100 per square metre.
In a rain-water harvesting system, the rain-water from a roof of 22 m × 20 m drains into a cylindrical tank having diameter of base 2 m and height 3·5 m. If the tank is full, find the rainfall in cm. Write your views on water conservation.
A vessel is a hollow cylinder fitted with a hemispherical bottom of the same base. The depth of the cylinder is `14/3` m and the diameter of hemisphere is 3.5 m. Calculate the volume and the internal surface area of the solid.
In one fortnight of a given month, there was a rainfall of 10 cm in a river valley. If the area of the valley is 7280 km2, show that the total rainfall was approximately equivalent to the addition to the normal water of three rivers each 1072 km long, 75 m wide and 3 m deep.
