The consequences of the end of the Second World War were the rise of two new powers on the global stage with the defeat of Germany and Japan. The devastation of Europe and parts of the world made the United States and the Soviet Union the greatest powers in the world with the ability to influence events anywhere on the Earth. Arenas of the Cold War refer to areas where crisis and war occurred or threatened to occur between the alliance systems but did not cross certain limits.
