# What is resonance condition in cyclotron? - Physics

Short Note

What is resonance condition in cyclotron?

#### Solution

1. In cyclotron operation when the frequency f at which the positive ion circulates in the magnetic field must be equal to the constant frequency of the electrical oscillator fosc. This is called resonance condition. "f"_"osc" = "qB"/(2pi"m")
2. The time period of oscillation is T = (2pi"m")/"qB"
3. The kinetic energy of charged particle is KE = 1/2"mv"^2 = ("q"^2"B"^2"r"^2)/(2"m")
Concept: Lorentz Force
