Calculate the period of revolution of Jupiter around the Sun. The ratio of the radius of Jupiter’s orbit to that of the Earth’s orbit is 5.

(Period of revolution of the Earth is 1 year)

Solution

Given that `"r"_"j"^3/"r"_"E" = 5`

`"T"_"J"^2/"T"_E^2=r_J^3/r_E^3`

Or, `T_J/T_E= (r_J/r_E)^"3/2"`

      `T_J/1=(5)^"3/2" = 11.18 "years"`

Thus, the period of revolution of Jupiter is 11.18 years.
