# Using suitable identities, evaluate the following. 104 × 97 - Mathematics

Sum

Using suitable identities, evaluate the following.

104 × 97

#### Solution

We have, 104 xx 97 = (100 + 4)(100 - 3)

= (100)^2 + (4 - 3)100 + 4 xx (-3)  .....["Using the identity", (x + a)(x + b) = x^2 + (a + b)x + ab]

= 10000 + 100 – 12

= 10088

Concept: Expansion of (x + a)(x + b)
