# The vertices of a triangle are A(3, 4), B(2, 0) and C(–1, 6). Find the equations of side BC - Mathematics and Statistics

Sum

The vertices of a triangle are A(3, 4), B(2, 0) and C(–1, 6). Find the equations of side BC

#### Solution

Vertices of ΔABC are A(3, 4), B(2, 0) and C(–1, 6).
Equation of a line in two point form is

(y - y_1)/(y_2 - y_1) = (x - x_1)/(x_2 - x_1)

∴ the equation of the side BC is

(y - 0)/(6 - 0) = (x - 2)/(-1 - 2)        ...[("B" = (x_1,y_1) = (2, 0)),("C" = (x_2,y_2) = (-1, 6))]

∴ y/6 = (x - 2)/(-3)

y = – 2 (x – 2)
∴ 2x + y – 4 = 0.
