# The Sum of Two Numbers is − 4 3 . If One of the Numbers is −5, Find the Other. - Mathematics

Sum

The sum of two numbers is $\frac{- 4}{3} .$ If one of the numbers is −5, find the other.

#### Solution

$\text{It is given that the sum of two numbers is} \frac{- 4}{3}, \text{where one of the numbers is - 5 .}$
$\text{Let the other number be x .}$
$\therefore x + ( - 5) = \frac{- 4}{3}$
$\Rightarrow x = \frac{- 4}{3} - (\frac{- 5}{1})$
$\Rightarrow x = \frac{- 4}{3} - \frac{- 15}{3}$
$\Rightarrow x = \frac{- 4 - ( - 15)}{3}$
$\Rightarrow x = \frac{- 4 + 15}{3} = \frac{11}{3}$
