Sum

The ratio of number of boys and girls in a school is 3 : 2. If 20% of the boys and 30% of the girls are scholarship holders, find the percentage of students who are not scholarship holders.

#### Solution

Let the total number comman multiple be 'x'
No of boys = 3x
No of girls = 2x
Total number of students = 3x + 2x = 5x

No of boys who are not scholarship holder =80/100xx3x=(12x)/5

No of boys who are not scholarship holder =70/100xx2x=(7x)/5

Total No of student who are not scholarship holder =(12x)/5+(7x)/5=(19x)/5

Percentage No of student who are not scholarship holder =((19x)/5)/(5x)xx100=((19x)/(25x))xx100=76%

76% students are not scholarship holders
