Three functions of the Security Council are:
(iv) To maintain international peace and security
(v) To investigate any dispute or situation which might lead to international tension or conflicts
(vi) To establish plans for the establishment of a system to regulate armaments.
The primary responsibility of the Security Council is the maintenance of peace and security in the world. This function is performed by the Council in the following fashion:
The Security Council may investigate any dispute or situation which might lead to international friction.
It may recommend appropriate methods for the settlement of disputes by negotiation, mediation, arbitration or judicial settlements.
To maintain peace, the Security Council may impose economic sanctions against the aggressors and even severe diplomatic relations with rogue countries.
