# The Base and the Height of a Triangle Are in the Ratio 4 : 5. If the Area of the Triangle is 40 M2; Find Its Base and Height. - Mathematics

Sum

The base and the height of a triangle are in the ratio 4: 5. If the area of the triangle is 40 m2; find its base and height.

#### Solution

Let the base of ∆ = 4x m
and height of ∆ = 5x m
area of ∆ = 40 m2

∵ 1/2 "base" xx "height" = "area of"  Delta

1/2 xx 4x xx 5x = 40

10x^2 = 40

x^2 = 4

x = sqrt(4)

x = 2

base = 4x = 4 xx 2 = 8 m

height = 5x = 5 xx 2 = 10 m

∴ 8 m; 10 m
