Solve each of the following equations using the formula:

3x^2 + 2x – 1 = 0

#### Solution

3x^2 + 2x – 1 = 0
Here a = 3, b = 2 and c = −1

Then x = (-b+-sqrt(b^2-4ac))/(2a)

=(-(2)+-sqrt((2)^2-4(3)(1)))/(2(3)

=(-2+-4)/6=(-2+-4)/6 and (-2-4)/6=1/3 and -1
