Solve the Following Equations Using the Formula 2x^2 + 7x + 5 = 0 - ICSE Class 10 - Mathematics

ConceptSolutions of Quadratic Equations by Factorization

Question

Solve the following equations using the formula

2x^2 + 7x + 5 = 0

Solution

2x^2 + 7x + 5 = 0

Here a = 2, b = 7 and c = 5

Then x = (-b +- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/(2(a))

= (-(7) +- sqrt((7)^2 - 4(2)(5)))/(2(2))

= (-7 +- 3)/4 = (-7 + 3)/4 and (-7-3)/4 = -1  "and" -5/2
