Simplify the following:

0.76 x 0.76 - 2 x 0.76 x 0.24 x 0.24 + 0.24

Solution

We have

0.76 x 0.76 - 2 x 0.76 x 0.24 x 0.24 + 0.24

= [0.76 + 0.24]2                  `[∵ a^2 + b^2 + 2ab = (a + b)^2]`

`= [1.00]^2`

= 1

∴ 0.76 x  0.76 + 2 x 0.76 x 0.24 + 0.24 x 0.24 = 1
