Question

Two numbers are in the ratio 2 : 3. If 5 is added to each number, the ratio becomes 5 : 7. Find the numbers.

Solution

Let the two numbers be 2x and 3x.
According to the given information,
`=(2x +5) /(3x+ 5) = 5/7`

    14x + 35 = 15x + 25

    x = 10
Thus, the numbers are 2 × 10 = 20 and 3 × 10 = 30.
