Answer the following questions based on a hot cathode ray tube.

What will happen to the beam when it passes through the electric field?

Solution

When an electric field is produced between the two plates, the electron beam on entering the space between the plates gets deflected towards the positive plate. Because the electric field is normal to the direction of motion of electrons, electrons of the beam follow a parabolic path.
