Solution

Let x tickets be sold at the rate of Rs.20 and y tickets at the rate of Rs.40.
Therefore, by first condition,
x + y =35 ....(1)
By second condition,
20x + 40y = 900
x + 2y = 45 .....(2)
Subtracting equation (1) from the equation (2),

x + 2y =45

x + y  =35

_   _     _

_________

     y=10

Substituting y 10 in equation (1),
x+10 =35
x + 35=10
x= 25
Therefore, 25 tickets at the rate of Rs. 20 each and10 tickets at the rate of Rs. 40 were sold.
