Cranial nerves arise from the brain. Spinal nerves arise from the spinal cord
There are 12 pairs of cranial nerves There are 31 pairs of spinal nerves.
They are numbered I to XII in Roman numerals  They are classified into five groups cervical 8 pair,thoracic 12 pairs,lumbar 5 pairs, sacral 5 pairs and coccygeal 1 pairs
