#### Question

If barX is the mean of  X_1, X_2 ...............X_n and bar Y is the mean of Y_1, Y_2.................... Y_n and  barZ is the mean X_1, X_2.............. X_n, Y_1, Y_2, .........................Y_n then Z ?

• (bar X  + bar Y) / 2

• bar X + bar Y

• (bar X  + bar Y) / n

• (barX + bar Y) /(2n)

#### Solution

If barX is the mean of  X_1, X_2 ...............X_n and bar Y is the mean of Y_1, Y_2.................... Y_n and  barZ is the mean X_1, X_2.............. X_n, Y_1, Y_2, .........................Y_n

then Z = (nx + ny)/ (2n) = [n ( bar x + bar y )] /( 2n ) = (bar x + bar y)/2
Hence, the correct alternative answer is (A).
