Find the value of x, given that `A^2 = B`

`A = [(2, 12),(0, 1)] and B = [(4, x),(0, 1)]`

Solution

`A = [(2, 12),(0, 1)]`

`A^2 = [(2, 12),(0, 1)][(2, 12),(0, 1)] = [(4 + 0, 24 + 12),(0 + 0,0 + 1)] = [(4, 36),(0, 1)]`

Given `A^2 = B`

`∴[(4, 36),(0, 1)] = [(4, x),(0, 1)]`

Comparing the corresponding elements we get

x = 36
