# Write the Differences Between Mass and Weight of an Object. - CBSE Class 9 - Science

#### Question

Write the differences between mass and weight of an object.

#### Solution 1

Mass Weight 1. The mass of an object is the guantity of matter contained in it. 1. The weight of an object is the force with it is attracted towards the centre of the earth. 2. SI unit of mass is kilogram (kg). 2. SI unit of mass is newton (N). 3.The mass of an object is constant. 3. The weight of an object is not constant. It changes with the change in acceleration due to gravity. 4. The mass of an object can never be zero. 4. The weight of an object can be zero.

#### Solution 2

S.No Mass Weight 1. The quantity of matter contained in a body is called mass. The force with which the earth attracts a body towards its centre is called weight. 2. Mass of a body remains constant. Weight of a body changes from place to place . 3. Mass of a body is never zero . Weight of a body becomes zero wherever the net gravitational force due to earth is zero. 4. Mass of a body is measured in kg. Weight of a body is measured in kg-wt or N. 5. Mass of a body is measured by beam balance. Weight of a body is measured by weighing balance.
