Question

If (3x – 9) : (5x + 4) is the triplicate ratio of 3: 4, find the value of x.

Solution

We have

`(3x - 9)/(5x + 4) = 3^3/4^3`

`=> (3x - 9)/(5x + 4) = 27/64`

`=> (3(x - 3))/(5x + 4) = 27/64`

`=>(x - 3)/(5x + 4)= 27/64`

=> 64x - 192 = 45x + 36

=> 19x = 228

=> x = 12
