Give the number of electrons in the species `"H"_2^+`, Hand `"O"_2^+`

Solution

`"H"_2^+`

Number of electrons present in hydrogen molecule (H2) = 1 + 1 = 2

∴ Number of electrons in `"H"_2^+`= 2 – 1 = 1

H2:

Number of electrons in H2 = 1 + 1 = 2

`"O"_2^+`

Number of electrons present in oxygen molecule (O2) = 8 + 8 = 16

∴ Number of electrons in `"O"_2^+`= 16 – 1 = 15
