In Melde’s experiment, when the tension in the string is 10 g wt then three loops are obtained. Determine the tension in the string required to obtain four loops, if all other conditions are constant.

Solution

`T_1P_1^2 = T_2P_2^2`

`10 xx 10^(-3) xx 9.8 xx 3^2 = T_2 xx 4^2`

`T_2 =(10 xx 10^(-3) xx 9.8 xx 9)/ 16`

T2 = 5.51 × 10-2 N
