A body X of mass 5 kg is moving with velocity 20 m s-2 while another body Y of mass 20 kg is moving with velocity 5 m S-1. Compare the momentum of the two bodies.

Solution

Mass of body X = 5 kg

Velocity of body X = 20 m/s

Momentum of body X = mass x veloctiy

`p_1 = 5 xx 20 = 100 "kg m/s"`

Mass of body Y = 5 m/s

Momentum of body Y = mass x velocity

`p_2 = 20 xx 5 = 100` kgm/s

`p_1/p_2 = (m_1v_1)/(m_2v_2) = (5 xx 20)/(20 xx 5) = 100/100 = 1: 1`
